Irish players pick from operators licensed in Malta, the UK, Alderney, Kahnawake and Curaçao, each with its own complaints route and its own idea of what a withdrawal delay is. Ireland’s own regulator, the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, has been operational since March 2025 under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. Who regulates gambling in Ireland?
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI), set up under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 and operational since March 2025. It has issued remote betting licences since 1 July 2026; online casino licences are expected in 2027–28. Until an operator holds an Irish licence, its licence is a foreign one — we print which on every card.
What is the National Gambling Exclusion Register?
A single national self-exclusion list required by section 45 of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. The GRAI has been working on its design; no commencement order has been published, so operator-level self-exclusion is still the tool that works today.
Do I pay tax on casino winnings in Ireland?
No — players do not pay tax on gambling winnings in Ireland. The operator pays betting duty on stakes, and that does not pass to the player. When winnings can still become taxable.
