Alexandre Dumas wrote several books in his career, but none quite caught the world’s imagination like The Three Musketeers. It has been remade countless times in films, TV shows and even made its way into the world of online slots. Software provider Playtech captures the slapstick comedy of the 1973 film starring Oliver Reed with a French twist in this uproarious game. The funny opening animation tells the story of D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers sent to retrieve the Queen’s diamonds from a castle, which in the book belongs to the Duke of Buckingham.
The Three Musketeers and the Queen's Diamond, not to confuse with Quickspin's The Three Musketeers, is bursting with colour. The transparent reels hover over the bright green English countryside, with the shiny pink diamond of the title matched only by the feathers flourishing the musketeers’ hats. The Three Musketeers and the Queen's Diamond slot game features a number of classic musketeer tropes as icons on the reels. The Queen’s Diamond, a crown and the letter with the royal seal are all present in the game. Other slot game symbols include the individual musketeer’s weapons, including the Splendid Sword of Porthos, the Wild Muskets of Athos and the Golden Daggers of Aramis. The weapon symbols offer a high payout alone, but can be combined with the musketeers for a bonus. If the corresponding musketeer appears on the reel with his weapon to the right, he will pluck it from the air and leap out of the reels, triggering the Musketeer bonus. The bonus you receive depends on the musketeer in play.
If it's Porthos, you'll be gifted with one re-spin, as well as a full reel transformed into a Stacked Wild. These appear on reels two, three and four, and can be substituted for all slot game symbols except D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers, as well as the game’s logo bonus symbol.
If it's Athos, you'll activate his special feature, which is another re-spin plus one random Wild on the central three reels. Lastly, if Aramis manages to get his hands on his golden daggers, two bags of gold will appear. Choosing one will reveal an instant cash prize.
D’Artagnan triggers the Queen’s Diamond bonus round when he appears simultaneously on reels two and four. The game then changes to a quest to penetrate the castle over five different stages. Successfully navigating the pitfalls and booby traps will see you faced with three chests, one of which hides the Queen’s Diamond. Choose wisely and you could nab up to seven times your bonus win.
